Cathedrals of Life. Installation Proposal. 2020

I wished to show the gorgeous cathedral like beauty of nature by enlarging these humble creatures to our size. Each of these large outdoor sculptures were intended to be built of a steel core and directly sculpted using the outdoor sculpting material Pal Tiya Premium.
Diatoms should be the most revered form of life. Their bodies literally and physically create most of the conditions for life on Earth.
These microscopic plankton produce up to 50 percent of all our world’s oxygen, account for 1/2 of the biomass of the oceans, and are responsible for a significant percentage of the land itself.

They are humble and beautiful, complex and foundational. Their breathtaking crystal glass shells are architectural wonders equalling the great ancient churches of Europe.
